Vitamin B12 is a popular supplement for people who want to help improve their energy levels, brain function, and mood.

Deficiency is very common in particular for vegans and vegetarians, but also in meat-eaters or those who take long-term medicines called ‘proton pump inhibitors’ such as omeprazole or lansoprazole. This is because the absorption of this vitamin may be compromised.

Other people at risk include those with gut diseases such as Crohns or celiac disease, and the elderly.

Who will be involved in my treatment?

We only have registered and experienced nurses at Lioness Medical to give Vitamin B12 injections.

Is Vitamin B12 safe?

it is considered to be very safe, the shots have no major side effects.

In very rare cases, there have been reports of sensitivity or allergy, so make sure you choose  a medical practitioner, in a medical environment to administer your shot.

How many will I need?

This is a difficult question to answer because every individual is different. We generally recommend that you have one shot a week for six weeks, but your appointments are completely flexible. Many people feel the benefits within 2-3 shots and decide to space their shots out with greater intervals.

We will consult you, and take energy and sleep scores from the outset. We will monitor your progress in this way and may recommend you have further blood tests as necessary if your symptoms don’t improve.

Can I overdose?

As Vitamin B12 is water-soluble, your body only absorbs what it needs and any excess passes through your urine.

Extremely high doses may cause dizziness, headache, anxiety, nausea or vomiting. However, we do not offer doses above the recommended guidance from  Intravita

What if I don’t feel better?

We will give you the option of private blood testing or write a letter of referral to your GP.

Private blood testing is a separate charge. Charges will be fully disclosed at consultation.
